I was sent copies of all three books to review and so far I have read the first two.
This review will be for the first two books and I will update it as soon as I finish the 3rd book:
When I first started reading ‘Soul Intention’ I thought the concept, the idea that is the story is an excellent one and I really wanted to enjoy it – but the book bored me.
I liked the way we got to see why some souls were taken but it was so long winded. I found the way the main character spoke very tedious and jumbled. One minute he sounded like an old world character, the next he’s trying to be ‘hip’ by calling people ‘dude’. It didn’t fit in and I found myself struggling to keep any interest. Another point of contention for me was when the main character meets the woman he falls in love with. The similarities between both of them are blatent and yet both are ignorant of that? Really???
I kept reading as I wanted to review the entire series based on actually reading all three books, and not just give up at the start. Book one finished, and I wasn’t sure whether I was relieved or disappointed. I took a day away from reading to rest my poor head and onto Book 2 I went.
‘Soul Directive’ took up right where ‘Soul Intention’ left off which scored a point from me. However, I will confess that up until about three quarters of the way through the book, I was still bored and struggling. Again, the base plot of the book was a good one but for me, it fell well short of what it should have been.
These books had so much potential, but they just seemed to plod along so slowly. There was room for lots more action and for me, it fell flat.
The pace did pick up three quarters of the way through ‘Soul Directive’ and just as it was finally gaining my interest, it ended.
I have started ‘Fortunate Soul’ and hope to have finished it by this evening. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that now some decent action had shown up in ‘Soul Directive’ it will carry on over into this book. Time will tell.
So far, my rating for this series stands at 3 Shamrocks. I’m really rooting for that rating to go up.
Finally finished the third book – ‘Fortunate Souls’ and in my opinion it wasn’t any better than the first two. I still stick by what I said originally, the idea behind the stories was an excellent one. I just didn’t enjoy them all that much.
Each book felt stilted, almost like I was reading a translation, but the translation wasn’t right (if that makes sense). I’m not going to rate this series less than three purely because of the plot (I know I keep saying about the plot)
So an unfortunate three Shamrocks for these three books.
