While my main reading genre is Paranormal/Paranormal Romance, I also LOVE Historical Romance. I REALLY love Historical Romance that portrays how things really were – no sugarcoating things etc. However, I’ve mainly only read Historical Romance based in the Tudor era or the likes of Mills & Boon Regency Collection so Viking Romance was a newbie for me.

I read ‘Blind Allegiance’ right before I read ‘Blind Mercy’ & OMG…OMG…OMG… Talk about gritty and raw. Both books were absolutely excellent and I’ll review ‘Blind Allegiance’ separately .

I thoroughly enjoyed ‘Blind Allegiance’ but I much prefered this book. It just pulled me in that little bit more. The main male character Tyr, seemed a little more vulnerable when it came to his feelings (at least, that’s how I perceived it) and Rachelle, curious but reluctant to give in to the new feelings Tyr invokes in her.

Violetta Rand does not pull any punches with her writing and this is really good considering the times the book is set in. War, enemies, and some conspiring betrayers set the backdrop for ‘Blind Mercy’.

What I liked: Firstly, how it carries on from ‘Blind Allegiance’ without crossing the two books completely. Mentioning the previous characters rather than involving them fully in the story worked so much better.
The descriptions the author scribes of the characters journey through the book are so good that you can close your eyes and imagine yourself in the surroundings described.
Characters: Friend or foe, both sets of characters are so plausible that you will either cheer them on or boo, depending on which character you like best 😀
Writing style: It flowed so well. I was able to just sit back and read without the story feeling stilted or awkward.

What I didn’t like: That I had never come across Violetta Rand before. This is one amazing author whose books are among some of the best I have read in Historical Fiction.

Who would I recommend this book to? Historical Romance fans, and maybe just Romance fans.

Violetta Rand will definitely be going on my fave authors list, without a doubt. Definite 5 Shamrocks for a book that from start to finish is full of action.
